Jeribucaçu Beach

A short (8km) drive outside of Itacaré and a one hour ecological walk down a rain-forest trail takes us to the spectacular Jeribucaçu beach.

Situated inside a fazenda/farm, it is considered by many people to be the prettiest of all Itacaré's beaches, for its many coconut palm trees and because it has 3 wonders in one place; a wild, deserted surf beach, a fresh-water river which forms a transparent lagoon across from the ocean and a beautiful waterfall with swimming hole just up from the river. The natural beauty of this place is accentuated by exotic vegetation and fantastic scenery. The beach itself is cut by the River Jeribucaçu, giving you the option of bathing in the river, lagoon or beach... The beach comes complete with perfect waves between half and one metre – making it one of Itacaré's many surfers' paradises.

There are local food and drink stands right by the lagoon across from the beach where you can choose from fresh fish and seafood dishes or local tapioca crepes – with various tasty fillings.

From the main beach we take a small hidden trail, covered in exotic greenery, up to the beach of Arruda, a gorgeous beach 30 metres long, with beautiful natural swimming pools. After this we take the trail up-river, through mangroves and forest to the waterfall of Usina (an ancient dam which provided energy to Itacaré in the golden times of cocoa farming, established on 1942). This impressive waterfall is 25 meters high, forming a lovely natural swimming hole below. It's located smack bang in the middle of the rainforest, making the experience of swimming there so much more lush!

Transport: Van or car, 30 minutes each way.

Pick-up/Return: 9hrs /16hrs.
